Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the great outdoors. However, the hot sun and high humidity can be harsh on your skin. To keep your skin healthy during the summer months, try incorporating some natural remedies into your routine. Here are some tips for keeping your skin looking and feeling its best this summer:

1. Wear protective clothing: Cover up with lightweight, breathable fabrics that will protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Don’t forget your essential, breathable HAT. We like to sport this one—chin straps are important for summer breezy days!

2. Use natural sunscreen: Choose a mineral-based sunscreen that uses ingredients like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to protect your skin from the sun. Your skin is your biggest organ, and when we constantly rub chemicals all over it, our smaller organs, like our liver, and our lymphatic system has to work overtime to metabolize these toxins. Fortunately for us, manufacturers have brought us many good sunscreen options. Here is a favorite of we here at Bee Max Healthy: Alba

3. Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water is essential for maintaining healthy skin during the summer months. Aim for at least eight glasses of water per day. This hint is really the #1 thing we should all be very careful to do on hot days—especially young children and we “seasoned” humans. Water is the liquid of life, but some water is better than others, we at BMH love our pH balanced water filter and pitcher that is glass and bamboo: BMH REC: Pitcher of Life

4. Eat a healthy diet: Consuming foods rich in antioxidants, like fruits and vegetables, can help protect your skin from damage and promote overall health. Crispy salads are always a welcome treat in the summer months, but if you don’t like to eat a lot of greens, or don’t have the time, energy, or will to eat enough greens, we at Bee Max Healthy love to drink our greens in refreshing smoothies. Our favorite green powder is yummy (can just be added to a glass of ice water, as well). Super Greens Powder Smoothie Mix with Organic Spirulina, Chlorella, Beet Root Powder, Digestive Enzymes & Probiotics. A healthy gut rarely tastes so good!

5. Use natural insect repellent: Avoid harsh chemicals (like the biocidal chemical DEET) by using natural insect repellents containing essential oils like citronella or eucalyptus. As with sunscreens, we are seeing more healthy options for insect repellant—no one likes to spend their camping trips picking off ticks, or itching mosquito bites—try spraying this natural alternative:

6. Exfoliate regularly: Exfoliating removes dead skin cells, allowing new skin to regenerate. Try using a homemade sugar scrub made with natural ingredients like sugar, coconut oil, and essential oils. One of our consultants here at Bee Max Healthy, Mama Jane, is an esthetician and she recommends this Cucumber-Mint sugar scrub for summer: RECIPE, this recipe calls for PEPPERMINT OIL and COCONUT OIL. Usually, if we use essential oils on our skin, they need to be combined with the carrier oil…check the links for our favorite, healthy ingredients that you will use for more healthy recipes—to eat and use for skincare.

7. Moisturize daily: Keep your skin hydrated by using a natural moisturizer containing ingredients like shea butter or coconut oil. There are many GREAT options for natural, organic moisturizer, but our wings-down favorite product is HEMPZ.

8. Take cool showers: Hot showers can strip your skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Switch to cool showers during the summer months to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. Use your Cucumber Mint Sugar Scrub and refresh with a eucalyptus mint shower bomb.

By incorporating these natural remedies into your summer skincare routine, you can keep your skin healthy and glowing all season long. Remember to always listen to your body and adjust your routine as needed. With a little extra care and attention, you'll be able to enjoy all that summer has to offer while keeping your skin happy and healthy.

As always, Bee Max Healthy recommends that you consult your health care provider before adding any supplements, radically changing your diet, or upping your exercise plan.
